A Family Date Night seems to go against what we are trying to do with our Cheap Date Challenge. But if your family date night happens to focus on something that you and your significant other love and you happen to bring the kidlets, it’s makes it much more date like than family entertainment.
It was after a fantastic Friday with the kids studying sea turtles that I wanted to take them out for Happy Hour. I was lucky that Michael was pretty much reading my mind. The restaurants here offer fantastic specials and there are a ton to choose from! Instead of heading to the most kid-friendly place in town, we did the exact opposite. We took them to the least kid-friendly place that one could imagine. It was 5pm. We wanted to sit outside (One reason I love South Florida. And it was February 28th!) at my favorite local place dripping with atmosphere, where they serve up a delish drink called 1924….and some fantastic appetizers as well.
The hostesses looked a bit nervous as we walked up with our 7, 4, and 2 year olds, but they were so gracious and showed us a fantastic little table in the back of the garden away from all the other diners. I loved it. We had atmosphere. We had drinks and some great conversation. A few appetizers for the table and we didn’t have to spend a ton of money.
It was an escape from the everyday. We don’t normally go out to eat and we certainly don’t take the kids to high-end restaurants. But stepping out of our everyday routine made the evening an occasion and is something I highly recommend.
(I’m writing this pre- Date #9…so that will be up soon too!)
