Yesterday was spent with our favorite naturalist again, this time exploring Fern Forest.
The day started with a game of hunting for “food”. Children were given a color rubber band to hunt for– and only that color. It was a challenge for them to see who can gather their food first. It wasn’t an easy task, as the rubber band section were scattered onto the ground in a small grassy area. The kids thought it was going to be really easy to find the bands, but soon discovered that it was a lot more tricky. In the end, all the rubber bands were uncovered.
We took a short hike. As we moved through the park, our naturalist helped to point out when we moved through the variety of ecosystems. They include the swamp forest, hammock, and pinelands.
The children identified decomposition and ferns. We ended the hike at the nature center where the kids explored animal track identification and scat identification.
